At Andy Mohr Collision Center, we believe it’s good to keep Plainfield, Indianapolis, Fishers, and Bloomington drivers aware of what to expect after being rear-ended.

Keep on reading to learn what to look out for when dealing with a rear-end collision.

Trunk Damage

If you own a car with a trunk, one of the first things you may notice after being rear-ended is any damage done to the trunk. This type of damage won’t usually affect the performance of your vehicle, but it can greatly affect the convenience the vehicle offers you.

Some symptoms you may find regarding trunk damage are the trunk having trouble opening or the trunk can’t remain locked. However, you’ll likely want to have the trunk repaired if you find the trunk opens randomly and can’t seem to stay closed. This can pose a risk to items inside your trunk as well as a risk to your rearview visibility.

Alignment Issues

When your vehicle is in a collision, it’s very likely you may have some wheel alignment issues afterward and rear-end collisions are no exception. Your alignment dictates how your wheels sit while you’re driving straight, and your car may drift to the side if your alignment is off.

It’s good to get misaligned wheels repaired as soon as possible simply because you’ll notice reduced handling. If you want to ensure you have a smooth drive no matter what, be sure to repair your alignment as soon as possible.

Bent Frame

If your vehicle was in a rear-end collision, there’s a possibility you may be dealing with damage to the frame itself and may need frame repair. This can be understood as the skeleton of the vehicle and it’s integral the car’s ability to absorb damage. However, frames can take enough damage to bend and even a little bit of frame bending can lead to a host of safety and handling issues.

To know if your frame is bent, you want to pay attention to whether or not your cameras and sensors are aligned properly. If not, it could very likely be due to a misalignment within your frame. Also, be sure to pay attention to any strange vehicle noises because your frame being out of alignment can cause other parts to sit incorrectly as well.

Damaged Taillights

It’s also important to make sure that your taillights are in good shape after a rear-end collision as well. Enough force could break the taillights, making your car unsafe to drive. If your taillights are damaged after a rear-end collision, be sure to repair them as soon as possible.
