If you’re looking at a repair on your vehicle, you may be thinking that you should just fix it yourself. However, that may not be a good idea, and we at Andy Mohr Collision Center want to show Plainfield, Indianapolis, Fishers, and Bloomington drivers the reasons why.

Put it In the Hands of the Experts
When dealing with auto body repairs, it’s best to leave it to the experts .You want to make sure that your car is properly taken care of, and DIY repairs may exacerbate the problem.
By going to a service center, you ensure that your vehicle is being taken care of by trained professionals. This will provide you with the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your car is getting the reliable care it needs.
Some Repairs Are Too Difficult
In addition to simply not having the know-how, you may also not be fully equipped with the manpower and tools needed to carry out the DIY repair. There are many repairs that can damage your vehicle if done poorly, so it’s good to leave them to someone with the right skills.
Take, for example, brake bleeding. This is the process of releasing air bubbles from your brake line. However, if done incorrectly, it can damage your brake system and leave your brakes less effective or even unusable.
Another example of a difficult DIY repair is carrying out repairs to your engine or your transmission. These parts are heavy and complex, and in the case of repairing a powertrain, heavy equipment is needed to lift it from the vehicle–not to mention, your engine and transmission are incredibly intricate. It can be very easy to accidentally damage them further from attempted repairs.
You May Improperly Diagnose Your Vehicle
Diagnosing the problem within your vehicle is half the battle, and if you aren’t well versed in what goes into diagnosing vehicle issues, you may cause more problems. ASE-certified mechanics are trained to perform full inspections and use complex diagnostic equipment. Unless you are knowledgeable enough to eyeball parts for damage, you won’t find much.
Looking up your car’s symptoms may not be entirely helpful, either. Oftentimes, specific symptoms may have a few possible causes, and an experienced technician will know how to test each part. Without the proper experience, you may end up replacing a part that never needed to be replaced, which at the very least will simply be unnecessary work and cost on your part.
