Step One: Make Sure You and Your Passengers Are Okay

Make Sure You and Your Passengers Are Okay

Whether the accident was minor or severe, you should first check yourself and your passengers for any injuries or other medical needs. Call 911 to get ahold of emergency services if needed.

Step Two: Get to Safety

If your vehicle is still drivable, pull your car over to the side of the road. However, if this isn’t the case, take you and your passengers to the side of the road or sidewalk.

Step Three: Call 911 and Wait for Help

After a car accident, it’s very important to call 911, whether it was a fender bender or a serious collision. Police officers will fill out an accident report and document the scene. You may need a copy of the accident report for your insurance claim in the future.

Step Four: Exchange Information

Exchange Information

While you wait for responders to arrive on scene, now would be the time to exchange important information from the other party involved. You should exchange this information with the other driver:

  • Full name and contact info
  • Insurance company and policy number
  • Driver’s license and license plate number
  • Make, model, and color of driver’s vehicle
  • Location of accident

Step Five: Document the Accident

In order to give proof of accident, it’s recommended that you document as much of the accident as you can. All the information you collect can help you file a thorough insurance claim. Try taking the following information down:

  • The officers at the scene
  • Ask where you can get a copy of the accident report
  • Take pictures of the accident from multiple angles
  • Document the name(s) of other parties involved
  • Talk to any witnesses and get their contact information

Step Six: Notify Insurance Company and Begin Claims Process

After the accident, you’ll want to notify your insurer that your vehicle has been involved in some sort of accident. From there, they can instruct you on the claims process, and tell you what to do next.

Step Seven: Have Your Vehicle Inspected and Repaired

Vehicle Inspected and Repaired

Whether your vehicle has incurred some serious damage or not, we recommend taking your vehicle into our body shop for a thorough examination. Our ASE-certified technicians will look at all visible and underlying damage. From there, they will make their plan of action and consult you on potential repairs.

With your permission, they will get to work on your vehicle. To help you get back on steady feet, our team can help arrange a rental car for you.
