What Types of Photos Should You Take After a Car Accident?

One of the big benefits of having cell phones is that we can now document all everyday occurrences photographically, no matter where we may be. If you’ve just had a car accident, this is incredibly helpful.

So, what types of things should Plainfield, Indianapolis, Fishers, and Bloomington area drivers photograph after a collision? Read this article by the Andy Mohr Collision Center team to find out!

Take Photos of the Vehicles

First things first, you’ll want to document the damages done. The car insurance company will need to know what occurred during the accident, so give them as much evidence as possible.

Take photos from a distance, including a complete view of the car. Then take close-up shots of the exact points of collision.

It’s also a good idea to take photos of the other driver’s car. This will help to corroborate any claims you each make to the insurance company in regard to damages.

Provide Points of Reference for Your Story

Let’s say that the other car crashed into your vehicle’s side after it failed to yield. The yield sign itself is a key element to the story and may point to where fault should be placed. So, you’d better make sure that you get that sign in one of your photos.

Providing points of reference such as this can be essential in letting the insurance company know what happened. Road signs, stoplights, and buildings can all aid in painting the portrait. Make sure to include them in your photos.

Give Photographic Proof for the Time of Day

If the accident occurred at 7:30 on Tuesday morning, that’s probably what you’re going to tell the insurance company. However, the other driver may, for some reason, contradict this story.

Take photos that prove the time and the day, just in case any of these inconsistencies arise. To make things easier, your phone should automatically archive the time, and in some cases, even the location.

Photograph the Area Surrounding Your Car

Is there broken glass around your car? Maybe skid marks or broken pieces of car parts? If so, you’ll want those photographed as well, so that the insurance company has even further proof that these damages were sustained on that day, in only that collision.

Take Pictures of Any Injuries

Hopefully, no one was hurt in this car accident. But if they were, it’s very important that you photograph bodily injuries, as well. Not just of you and your passengers, but of the other party, too. These can really come in handy further down the line, if other types of insurance get involved.

We’ll Take Care of Your Vehicle

Once you’ve taken all the photographs, the insurance company can get to work taking care of your claim. But afterward, you’ll still need a collision center in the Fishers, Plainfield, Bloomington, or Indianapolis areas to take care of repairs.
